The requirements for being ISO registered include having a documented quality system covering certain predetermined areas including:

A commitment of top management to:
  • communicate to the organization the importance of meeting customer requirements
  • state the company's Quality Policy and promote a commitment to quality throughout the organization
  • plan for quality
  • establish quality objectives
  • identify the resources required to achieve these goals and provide the needed resources
  • designate authority and responsibility
  • name a representative responsible for ensuring the Quality Management System meets the requirements of the ISO Standard
  • review the organization's Quality Management System at planned intervals including assessing opportunities for improvement and the need for changes
  • monitor, measure, analyze and improve

A documented Quality Manual to formally define the activities necessary to meet the requirements of the ISO standard and the company's commitment to quality.

Control of documentation including customer specifications, quality system procedures, work instructions, etc., to assure that the correct issues of documents are available and that obsolete documents are removed and/or properly identified.

Control of nonconforming products including identification and reporting.

Corrective and Preventative action to eliminate problems and potential problems with products or the Quality System.

Keeping records that provide evidence that products meet requirements and demonstrate the effective working of the Quality Management System.

Performing internal audits to verify the effectiveness of the system.

Providing training to employees to the degree necessary to achieve the level of quality required of the job or function.

A system for reviewing the requirements of an order and assessing the ability to meet them.

Assuring that purchased items are correct and that vendors are chosen based on their ability to meet our quality requirements.

A system for planning for product realization, customer and product requirements.

Systems for internal as well as customer communications.

Control of any items provided by our customers for use in products.

Inspection of incoming, in-process and outgoing products and recording of these inspections.

Control of production and inspection processes to assure products that meet customers'requirements.

Control of inspection, measuring and test equipment to assure compliance to standards.

Analysis of data to demonstrate the suitability and effectiveness of the quality management system and to evaluate where continual improvement of the system can be made in regards to customer satisfaction, conformity to product requirements, trends of processes, suppliers and more.
